Jesus Calms The Storm

Jesus Calms the Storm

This Story is taken from Matthew 8:23-27,  Mark 4:35-41, and Luke 8:22-25

One day as evening came, Jesus said to His disciples, "Let's cross to the other side of  the lake."  So Jesus and His disciples got into a boat and started across the lake, leaving the crowds of people behind, although other boats followed them.

Just think, it would have to be a good size boat to hold so many people.  Usually in the time of the Bible, if a boat was very big, it would have oars and sails.  During a storm the sails are taken down to keep them from getting torn up, and to help make the boat easier to control.

As they were sailing across the lake, Jesus settled down for a nap.  But suddenly a fierce storm came down on the lake.  Then High waves were breaking into the boat, and the boat began to fill with water,  and they were in real danger.  Many of Jesus disciples were fishermen, and they knew how dangerous a storm could be out on the lake.  And they knew the danger that they were in.

Now Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with His head on a cushion.  And the disciples became afraid of the terrible storm and they panicked, so they went and woke Jesus up, shouting, "Lord! Save us!  Master don't you care that we're going to drown!"

When Jesus woke up, He got up and very sharply scolded the winds and the raging waves saying, "Be silence!  Be still!  Suddenly the storm stopped, and there was a great calm.  Then Jesus asked His disciples, "Why are you afraid!  Where is your faith?  You have so little faith!"

The disciples were surprise at what Jesus did.  And they asked each other, "What kind of man is this?  When Jesus gives a command, even the winds and the waves obey Him!"

Just think, you see even after seeing all the miracles that Jesus had done, the disciples still didn't understand who Jesus was.  They didn't know that Jesus could control nature, too!

It was Jesus' power that calmed the storm in the story, and Jesus can also help you deal with problems in your own life.  Jesus is willing to help you, if you will only ask Him.  You should never doubt Jesus' powers, just trust Him to help you.
