Who is Jesus?
Introduction
Jesus Himself asked that question to His disciples. But, people today also have their own answer to the question. But how can people really answer the question, unless they have read or heard about Him. The story is about how Peter, one of Jesus' disciples answered the question.
Peter says Jesus is the Messiah
Story is taken from Matthew 16:13-20, Mark 8:27-30, and Luke 9:18-20
One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only His disciples went with Him. Jesus and His disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" His disciples said, "Well, some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah, or one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead.
Then Jesus asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God."
Then Jesus said, "You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in Heaven has made this known to you. You didn't learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter, which means rock, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hades will not conquer it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in Heaven."
Then Jesus firmly warned His disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Messiah.
Think About This:
Jesus had asked His disciples "Who did other people think He was?" Then He asked His disciples the same question. It's not enough to know what other people say about Jesus, you must know, understand, and believe for yourself that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.
